Russia records the anti-Russian statements of officials of the Republic of Moldova and will not leave them without a reaction, the spokeswoman of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, said at a press conference in Moscow on Thursday. reports the Russian state agency TASS.

“We are anxiously watching how the situation is developing in the Republic of Moldova, which is historically close to us, where protests are ongoing, involving thousands of residents who are dissatisfied with the policies of the country’s leadership,” said Maria Zakharova, TASS and Agerpres reported.

According to her, these events are accompanied by an escalation of anti-Russian rhetoric – “on the border with Russophobia” – from the country’s officials.

“It has come to the point that some parliamentarians of the ruling party “Action and Solidarity” (PAS) are starting calls in the parliament to recognize Russia, as they say, as a terrorist regime. We are, of course, recording these anti-Russian statements, and obviously they will not go unanswered,” she warned.

According to her, the threat to the neutrality of the Republic of Moldova is not Russia, but the West, TASS notes.

“I want to repeat once again, as experience shows, the threat to the neutrality of the Republic of Moldova is not Russia, but military and military-technical assistance (of the West), the real purpose of which is to ensure the interests of the West itself, and not the security of Moldova,” said the spokeswoman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation.

The West is a threat, not Russia, Zakharova insists

“The goal is obvious: to prepare the population for an increase in defense spending, to justify the development of cooperation with NATO and the EU under the pretext of protecting its neutrality,” Zakharova also stated, citing the Deschide.md portal.

Additional evidence in this sense, according to her, are “the maneuvers of the American military in the immediate vicinity of the Republic of Moldova.”

In this context, Deschide.md refers to statements made in the summer by several Russian officials, including generals of the Russian army, who spoke about the beginning of the second phase of a “special military operation” in Ukraine, aimed, in particular, at the creation of a land corridor to the Transnistrian region (with east of the Republic of Moldova).

At the same time, Deschide.md journalists note that the neutrality status of the Republic of Moldova, referred to by Maria Zakharova, does not prohibit military-technical cooperation with other states or organizations.

Russia also continues to maintain its troops in Transnistria, although Kishinev has repeatedly requested the withdrawal of the Operational-Operational Group of Russian troops in Transnistria (GOTR), which is deployed separately from Russian peacekeeping forces in the Transnistrian region.
