Spain’s Andres Iniesta, a former FC Barcelona star, has nominated footballers he enjoyed playing with throughout his career, with Lionel Messi surprisingly absent from his list.
Kudos to Juan Roman Riquelme
Current Vissel Kobe player Andres Iniesta has paid tribute to Argentinian publication TyC Sports, praising his former team-mate Juan Roman Riquelme, who is now in charge of Boca Juniors.
“I wish Riquelme would invite me to La Bombonera. As far as I know, the atmosphere is spectacular. I like Argentinian football. I kept in touch with him, it was an honor to have him as a teammate and to watch him train and play,” Iniesta said, according to AS.
Lionel Messi is not among his favorite teammates
When talking about the footballers he most enjoyed playing with, Iniesta omitted Lionel Messi.
“The five players I enjoyed playing with the most on the pitch are Xavi, Neymar, Eto’o, Busquets and Roman,” added the Spanish footballer.
Pablo Aymar, Andres Iniesta’s idol
At the end of the interview, Iniesta talked about the Argentinian football player who marked his career.
“My idol has been Pablo Aymar ever since I saw him on the pitch in Spain. It was always something special for me to see him play,” Iniesta concluded.
Andres Iniesta, now in the Japanese Vissel Kobe, played for Barcelona for 16 years, with whom he parted in 2018.
