Minister of Labor Marius Budai rejects the idea of raising the retirement age in Romania, believing that before raising this age, it is necessary to increase the healthy life expectancy of the population. He is in favor of combining a pension with a salary, including the state, but only for those workers who retired at the general retirement age.

“I said very clearly that I do not support raising the retirement age. I believe that in Romania we have completely different priorities, namely increasing life expectancy, and especially healthy life expectancy. Because in Romania right now the healthy life expectancy is 59 years and six or eight months and the male life expectancy is 70 years and six months. They are talking about raising the retirement age to 70. It’s cynical, I won’t do something like that,” said Marius Budai on the air of the Insider Politic show on Prima TV on Saturday.

Regarding the retirement age of women, he explained that the decision of the Central Labor Committee gives women the opportunity to work until the age of 65 if they so choose, noting that he does not support the introduction of an obligation in this regard.

The Minister of Labor is also in favor of combining the pension with the salary, including the state, but only in the case of those workers who retired at the standard retirement age (News source: news.ro).
