Pep Guardiola considers Argentina the favorite for the World Cup

Argentina’s Juan Alvarez, who joined from River Plate this summer and has already impressed despite being Erling Haaland’s backup, has spoken about the dialogue between Pep Guardiola and City’s players.

“Pep once spoke to the Portuguese players and the Spaniard Rodri about who could win the World Cup. They were saying that Portugal, France and other European teams were favourites, and Guardiola was pointing at me,” Alvarez said, according to The Mirror.

Juan Alvarez, 22, hopes his good form at Manchester City will earn him a call-up to Argentina’s squad for Qatar. The team coached by Lionel Scaloni has not won the trophy since 1986.

Argentina are in Group C alongside Saudi Arabia, Poland and Mexico and are considered favorites to win the group, enjoying one of the longest unbeaten runs in history.

The final World Cup takes place from November 20 to December 18 in Qatar.
