We kind of forgot her, but now she’s talking about her again. This is, of course, a mountain of law that went into effect late last year and will apparently return in 2022. From November 1, all motorists who drive in the relevant departments must be equipped with winter tires or skid chains in order to have the right to circulate. A new law aimed at reducing accidents in winter in areas with generally difficult road conditions. There is a lot of weather, and the pavement becomes slippery. In general, 48 departments applies to this event, which, like last year, will be valid until March 31.

Zero tolerance

Last year, pedagogy was in order, and the police had not yet applied sanctions. If everyone thought that it would be the same this year, when the government did not say anything, then it is not true. And now they can punish anyone who does not have the necessary equipment. This would then be a Class 4 sanction which is equivalent to a 135 euro fine. In certain cases, the vehicle may also be required to stop. To be OK, you must be equipped with at least M+S marked tires. But ideally still have rubber bands with a sign 3PMSF. Thus, you will be assured of optimal safety as they offer improved grip on snow and ice.

48 departments

This new law affects at least 48 French departments, including Ahn, Pyrenees-Orientales, The Vosges, the Belfort area or even Savoy. Signs will then indicate entry and exit from areas covered by this law. In them, the use of winter tires or chains will be strictly mandatory regardless of the weather. But law enforcement agencies must be prudent.
