The British Museum, known for its collection of wax statues of great personalities, announced on Wednesday that it is removing the statue of Kanye West from its main display.

“The statue of Kanye West was removed from the floor of the attractions and moved to the archive. Every individual deserves a place at Madame Tussauds in London and we listen to our customers and the public about what they want to see or not see in our museum,” a Madame Tussauds spokesperson told the BBC.

This wax statue was installed in the permanent exhibition of the museum in 2015. The American rapper appeared there next to the statue of his ex-wife Kim Kardashian.

While Madame Tussauds has several branches around the world, especially in the United States, this statue of Kanye West was the only artist that the institution exhibited.

Kanye West’s contract with Adidas has expired

The removal of this wax statue comes in the context of a general boycott of the American rapper, who made anti-Semitic remarks in early October.

On Instagram, Kanye West posted screenshots of a conversation with rapper Diddy, who criticized a T-shirt with the inscription “White Lives Matter” that the artist wore during Paris Fashion Week. Kanye West wrote in a now-deleted caption that:

“I will use you as an example to show the Jewish people who told you to call me that no one can threaten me or influence me,” the rapper later said on Twitter about attacking Jews.

Since then, many brands that have collaborated with Kanye West (Gap, Adidas, Balenciaga) have announced that they want to stop working with the rapper.

On Tuesday, Adidas became the latest company to announce the end of its partnership with West. The agreement, which the parties signed in 2014, helped make the American rapper a billionaire.

Last August, Kanye West, known for his eccentricity, announced that he had officially changed his name to Ye.
