French Prime Minister Elizabeth Bourne said during a Senate debate on the conflict that Russia “will have to answer” for “barbaric violations of the laws of war” in Ukraine, AFP reports.
“Every time the Ukrainian army advances, the liberation is accompanied by the discovery of mass murders or mass graves, as in Buch in the spring, and recently in Izyum. These are shocking, disgusting, terrible actions. These are barbaric violations of the laws of war, and Russia will have to answer for them,” the prime minister said.
Bourne also referred to the “unbelievable statements of the Russian defense minister regarding Ukraine’s use of a dirty bomb.” “This is nothing more than another lie by Moscow to legitimize the escalation,” the French official said.
To the applause of the Senate, she honored the Ukrainians whose “courage inspires admiration” and “heroism inspires respect.”
But “despite Russia’s weaknesses, let’s not think for a moment that the end of hostilities is near.”
“Russia is ready for anything. And not on the battlefield, but at the negotiating table, we will find a way out of this war,” she said.
Regarding weapons, she noted that France will soon deliver “countermeasure systems such as the Crotale,” a short-range air defense missile system in service with the French army.
“And we are looking into sending additional artillery assets, such as a unitary rocket launcher (RSV),” she said.
In March 2022, France already supplied Ukraine with MISTRAL short-range MANPADS (MANPADS), capable of shooting down a target flying at an altitude of 3,000 m, with a maximum firing range of 6,000 m.
