The situation arose after Ukraine said Vladimir Putin’s forces were now preparing for “tougher fighting” in the strategic city of Kherson, which Russia illegally claimed in a bogus referendum last month.
“The Russians are renewing their forces and strengthening their presence there,” warned Aleksey Arestovich, a close associate of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. “That means no one is going to retire. On the contrary, the most serious battles will be fought for Kherson,” he added.
