The famous Russian TV presenter and journalist Ksenia Sobcyak left Russia on the night from Tuesday to Wednesday and entered Lithuania through Belarus, sources in the law enforcement agencies, quoted by the official Russian news agency TASS, reported Rador.
“Sobchak left Moscow late on Tuesday evening. At the same time, I bought plane tickets to Dubai on the Internet, and today to Turkey. He did this to confuse the agents. But in the end, he went to Lithuania through the Republic of Belarus,” quoted sources said, TASS reports.
According to information, the agents had an investigator’s order to detain Ksenia Sobcyak, but she managed to escape.
Previously, searches were announced at the dacha of Ksenia Sobchak, located in the Moscow region, in the case opened against its commercial director Kyril Sukhanov.
Representatives of law enforcement agencies reported that the investigator of the State Department of Internal Affairs in Moscow will turn to the Tver Court of the Russian capital on Wednesday with a request to choose a preventive measure for him.
In her Telegram channel, Ksenia Sobcyak made it clear that this file, which became the reason for the search, is politically motivated and related to a documentary she made about the use of torture in Russian prisons.
Its commercial director was detained on October 25 on charges of extortion.
At the beginning of this month, the same TASS news agency reported, citing an unidentified law enforcement source, that Sobcyak is the subject of criminal proceedings for information that the police consider to be “fake news.”
Who is Ksenia Sobcyak?
Ksenia Sobtsyak (40 years old) is the daughter of the former mayor of St. Petersburg Anatoly Sobtsak, the political mentor of Russian President Vladimir Putin. She participated in liberal opposition politics for several years and ran against Putin for the post of president in 2018.
She runs a YouTube channel with over 3 million subscribers. In addition, Ksenia Sobcyat’s Telegram channel, which often broadcasts information critical of Russian government policies, has 1.4 million subscribers, but remains a controversial name among Russian opposition activists, some of whom say she has ties to Kremlin.
Ksenia Sobcyak has so far avoided prosecution, but was previously investigated by authorities for broadcasting so-called “LGBT propaganda” and statements that claimed the Crimean peninsula was Ukrainian after Russia annexed it in 2014.
