On Wednesday, the Russian police searched the house of journalist and radio and TV presenter Ksenia Sobchak as part of the investigation against her commercial director, reports the Russian news agency TASS with reference to sources in the investigation, writes Agerpres.
Sobchak, the daughter of former St. Petersburg Mayor Anatoly Sobchak, a political mentor to Russian President Vladimir Putin, has been involved in liberal opposition politics for several years and ran against Putin for the presidency in 2018.
In her Telegram channel, Ksenia Sobcyak made it clear that this file, which became the reason for the search, is politically motivated and related to a documentary she made about the use of torture in Russian prisons.
Its commercial director was detained on October 25 on charges of extortion. As TASS reports with reference to law enforcement sources, Ksenia Sobcyak is not a suspect in this case.
Ksenia Sobcyat’s Telegram channel, which often broadcasts information critical of Russian government policies, has 1.4 million subscribers, but she remains a controversial name among Russian opposition activists, some of whom say she has ties to the Kremlin.
