‘The Crown’: Netflix’s Response to Backlash: ‘It’s a Fiction’

Netflix added to his YouTube account an explanatory message about the upcoming fifth season of the popular series”Crown(“Crown”), emphasizing that this is a work of fiction.

The message that appears in the official description of the new trailer reads: “Inspired by real events, the fiction presents the story of Queen Elizabeth II and the political and personal events that influenced her reign. Previous trailers released some time ago did not include text. However, the popular streaming service emphasized the “fictional” nature of the show’s content, social media, and The Crown’s website.

Netflix Inc. previously announced that the creators of the show never claimed to be a true depiction of events in the life of the royal family.

However, just twenty-four hours prior, Judi Dench criticized the series for being a “gross scoop”, saying that Netflix should include a clearer message “at the start of every episode”.

On September 8, the day of Queen Elizabeth II’s death, the show’s producers announced that they would be taking a break from filming the sixth season. The pause became part of the British days of mourning.

The action of the fifth season of the series takes place in the early 1990s, after the departure of Margaret Thatcher from the post of Prime Minister. The central theme is the tumultuous relationship between Princess Diana and the then Prince Charles. The fifth and sixth seasons starring Imelda Staunton, Elizabeth Debicki and Dominic West.
