Beloved actor Matthew Perry poses for the cover of People magazine and talks about the most difficult period of his life on the occasion of the release of his book “Friends, Lovers and the Big Bad Thing”, which will be released on November 1st.

“I wanted to speak out when I felt confident… completely independent,” he told the magazine.

The actor reveals that he almost died a few years ago at the age of 49 from an opioid overdose. He spent two weeks in a coma and five months in the hospital. “The doctors told my family that I had a 2% chance of survival,” she recalls.

When Perry started acting on Friends at the age of 24, his alcohol addiction was just starting to get him into trouble. But then “I couldn’t stop because the disease and addiction progressed. So the older you get, the worse it gets,” he said.

He noted that he underwent rehabilitation 15 times and underwent 14 stomach operations. “At the hospital that night, five people went to the ECMO machine. All four died, but I survived. The big question is why was I the one? There must be a reason,” Perry concludes.
