Germany condemns Erdogan’s threats against Greece

His recent threats and provocative statements Recep Tayyip Erdogan against Greece was again condemned by Germany.

Berlin “does not consider it appropriate to make threats and unfriendly statements against neighbors,” Deputy Government Spokesman Wolfgang Buechner said, referring to recent statements by the Turkish president.

Asked how Chancellor Olaf Soltz felt about Erdoğan’s threats, such as the now-famous “We’ll come one night…,” Mr. Buechner said: “We take note of that. We always make it clear that we do not consider threats and unfriendly statements against neighbors to be proper. The government declares this at every opportunity. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs always makes it clear.”

However, he added, according to APE-MBE: “However, I also think that we should not talk too much about every phrase that is spoken.”

Soltz comes to Greece

It is noted that next week, namely in two days on December 26-27, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz to visit Athenswhere he will meet personally with Kyriakos Mitsotakis.

According to Buechner, the meeting with the Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis will take place on Thursday, and a joint press conference is scheduled for 12:00. A working lunch will follow.

As the representative of the German Chancellor noted, bilateral and current economic and European issues are on the agenda of the meeting. Herr Soltz will leave for Berlin in the afternoon of the same day.

Erdogan’s statements

Recall that a week ago, the Turkish President repeated the conversation about … arriving in Greece “for one night”, saying that Turkey is ready for any development of events.

“We see what is happening in Alexandroupolis or on different islands. Once we put on our armor and take precautions, these things will not frighten us. We have taken action, everything is ready. Therefore, we are taking appropriate steps. Let them think about it,” he told reporters.

And when journalists asked the Turkish President, “Is there a limit to our patience?” Erdogan replied: “There is no date for this. We can come suddenly one night, that’s different. The date will be recorded. No dates are given here. Is it possible to say what and when we will do?
