After a meeting in Helsinki with his Finnish counterpart Pekka Olavi Haavisto Billström said: “We take the developments in Hungary as positive and we appreciate that there, as in Turkey, the ratification process will be completed soon when the parliament votes in favor of these. matters”.

“There are no signs that we will not receive a positive response from the parliament in Budapest,” insisted the head of Swedish diplomacy.

Until now, 28 member states – out of 30 – of the North Atlantic Alliance have ratified the accession of Sweden and Finland.

Only Hungary and Turkey have yet to give their final consent.

At the NATO summit in Madrid at the end of June, Sweden, Finland and Turkey signed a memorandum that opens the two Nordic countries’ access to the North Atlantic Alliance.

But the Turkish president immediately threatened a veto if some conditions were not met.
