Also on Thursday, Jelena Ostapenko (12th seed / Roland Garros 2017 champion) lost in straight sets to Russian Veronika Kudermetova, 6-4, 6-4. The match lasted one hour and 34 minutes.
In the quarters, Kudermetova (8) will meet the winner of the match between Danielle Collins (14) and Maria Sakkari (4).
The Guadalajara Open Akron 2022 is a WTA 1000 event with a total prize pool of $2,527,250 and a starting main draw of 64 players. The competition takes place from October 17 to 23. Jessica Pegula remained the main favorite of the tournament in Mexico.
