Dacia is no longer a brand that only thinks about price, but has ever-growing aspirations, Renault group chief designer Laurens van den Acker said at the Paris Motor Show. Insisting on the idea of cars for outdoor walks and recreation, the Dacia of the future could be seen as a kind of Jeep or Land Rover, but at a more affordable price, says the designer.
“Dacia is a great brand. It fits the times. It is exactly what you need and nothing more. Dacia cars have everything you need, but we’re giving the brand more outdoor spirit. In the past, we focused on price and had no aspirations. That outside spirit gives us the chance to build something like an affordable Jeep or Land Rover,” Laurens van den Acker was quoted as saying by Autocar UK.
In the last two years, Dacia has been more insistent in its communications that models such as the Jogger and Duster, as well as the upcoming Bigster, are family, outdoor and recreational vehicles.
The Dacia model range is changing a lot. The first electric car was released. In the spring, the first Jogger hybrid will be released, and after 2-3 years, the Bigster, which will be the longest-running Dacia model in the brand’s history, will hit the market.
Dacia car prices have risen over the past year and waiting times can be as long as a year. The company also introduced its first Jogger hybrid. The opening of orders will take place in early 2023, and the first deliveries will take place next spring.
Van den Acker also talked about two new models inspired by retro cars that Renault will bring to the market: the Renault 5 and the Renault 4. He said that the French brand probably couldn’t make them if there were internal combustion cars like it would be there were design and engineering limitations. However, being designed from the ground up as all-electric cars, they can look special.
He also said that in the early years, people wanted electric cars to have a normal, familiar design, but now we have reached a phase where people want to stand out with these cars, so the idea of taking inspiration from models that have been successful in the past is one that by which an electric car can distinguish itself.
About the super sports brand Alpine, the chief designer quoted the CEO of the group, Luca De Meo, who wants the brand to be a combination of Ferrari and Tesla, so the goal is ambitious.
