A Labor proposal to ban the controversial method of hydraulic fracturing (fracking) for shale gas production was defeated by the House of Commons in a vote that was seen as a vote of confidence in the British government.
Her government Liz Truss she won the vote by a margin of 326 votes to 230, but did not emerge unscathed. According to the BBC, 40 Conservative MPs did not participate in the vote.
And all this at a time when Prime Minister Truss is struggling to stay in power despite the fierce criticism she is receiving even from within the ruling Conservative Party.
Earlier it became known that Conservative MP Wendy Morton, who was in charge of party discipline, resigned a few hours after Home Secretary Swella Braverman left.
Braverman’s resignation, citing a “security breach” regarding the sharing of sensitive government information, is the second resignation of Secretary Trump in days. Both were replaced by officials who did not support Liz Truss in the internal party vote to succeed Boris Johnson as Tory leader. Jeremy Hunt replaced Quasi Kwarteng at the Treasury and Grant Shapps replaced Swella Braverman at the Home Office.
