Beloved actress Anne Hathaway spoke at ELLE’s Women in Hollywood event in Los Angeles about the hate she’s experienced online and in the media before, but especially after winning the Best Actress Oscar for Les Misérables.
“I didn’t want to have anything to do with this place. I would not live in fear and would never speak that language. To anyone. Even to myself,” he said. Notably, Hathaway received numerous awards for her performance that year. However, along with its success came harsh criticism.
“There is a difference between being and acting,” the star added. “You can judge behavior, justify it or not. But you have no right to judge someone for their existence. And if you do, you’re not where you should be.”
He pointed out that hatred is a learned behavior that can be changed. “The brain is there. I hope that those who have experienced this terrible feeling will give themselves a chance to learn to love again,” he added.
