A new video shared by the Ukrainian military on social media shows that they have begun using HIMARS systems to target Russian military convoys as well, with footage showing a number of vehicles destroyed during the attack.

The images speak for themselves and are all the more remarkable given that the attack took place in eastern Ukraine’s Luhansk region, the only region where Kyiv’s forces do not appear to have launched large-scale offensives recently.

Investigative journalists of “Meduza” in a video report published on Wednesday claim that a group of “Wagner” mercenaries under the leadership of businessman Yevgeny Prigozhin, nicknamed “Putin’s cook”, should have built a large fortified line for the defense of Luhansk.

Meduza assumes that this line of defense will stretch for tens of kilometers and cover the territory between Lysiyansk and Luhansk.

Satellite photos last week also showed that Russian defenders had also begun building “dragon’s teeth,” static fortifications last used on a large scale in World War II, on the Luhansk border.

The construction of the “dragon’s teeth” was largely abandoned after the Second World War, but in some of its strategic areas Switzerland continues to maintain such fortifications to this day, also known as “Toblerone lines” due to the row placement of the structures, which resembles the shape of the famous Swiss chocolate.

Russia probably did not expect a HIMARS attack on its forces in Luhansk

Russian President Vladimir Putin on Wednesday declared martial law in the occupied territories of Luhansk and other areas of Donetsk, Zaporizhia and Kherson controlled by his army and annexed by Moscow in late September.

However, a second decree released by the Kremlin on Wednesday shows that de facto martial law has been imposed across Russia, with Putin leaving its implementation to local authorities.

But going back to the video, it again shows that the Ukrainian military now seems confident enough to attack with HIMARS systems during the day, after in the first months they used them exclusively in night attacks, when they are less vulnerable.

Moreover, such images of an entire Russian convoy destroyed by the Ukrainians have not been seen since the early stages of the war, when the Russian army en masse attacked in such a style that turned out to be extremely destructive.

This most likely indicates that the Russians were extremely confident that such an attack on their forces could not take place in the Luhansk region, which they had managed to fully capture since early July after the fall of Lischansk.
