Norway: Real estate near military bases bought by the Russian Orthodox Church

According to cadastral data in 2017 Russian Orthodox Church bought a building in Sered (Municipality of Bergen), which is located at a distance of three kilometers from Haakonsvern, which is the most important port and naval base.

In the period 2017-2021, the Russian Orthodox Church acquired several plots of land in the coastal zone of Rugalan. For example, in the city of Stanvanger, a former priest of the local community of the Russian Orthodox Church maintains real estate near the NATO Joint Center in Yotto, writes Dagbladet. The property is located just one kilometer from an important military building, about a fifteen minute walk.

The Russian Orthodox Church also has property in Kirkenes, on the border with Russia. She was purchased in 2015. She has also owned a building in Oslo since 1996.

Priest Dmitry Ostanin, who works at a church in Sereid, said in response to a newspaper question that there was “no danger” from his own church.

“First of all, because I myself am Ukrainian. And I curse this war unleashed by Russia against my country. My father-in-law and mother-in-law are refugees here in Norway. My relatives and my wife’s relatives still live there during the bombing war ”, the priest said, adding that many believers visit other churches because of his anti-war position.

New arrests of Russians

Recently, detentions of Russian citizens using small unmanned aerial vehicles (drones) have become more frequent in Norway.

Norwegian police today announced the arrest of another Russian they accuse of sending a small unmanned aerial vehicle (drone) to fly over Norwegian territory, this time over the strategically important Svalbard archipelago in the Arctic.

According to the Finnmark Regional Police, the arrest, which took place in Hammerfest in northern Norway, concerns a 47-year-old man with dual Russian and British citizenship.

“The suspect admitted that he sent the drone to Svalbard,” said police officer Anja Mikkelsen. According to the Barents Observer, he is the son of a “famous Russian businessman” who is “closely linked to Vladimir Putin”.
