Guadalajara (the final WTA 1000 event of the year) was left without two favorites on Tuesday after Barbora Krejcikova and Beatrice Haddad-Maia were knocked out in the first round.

Barbora Krejcikova, defeat by Anna Kalinska at the WTA in Guadalajara

Krejcikova (17 WTA), who dominated the last competitions in which she participated (Tallinn and Ostrava), was defeated by Anna Kalinska.

The Russian, who is ranked 73rd in the world, needed an hour and 41 minutes of play to defeat the ninth seed from Mexico, 6-3, 6-4.

In the next round, Kalinska will meet the Belgian Elise Mertens (34 WTA).

Beatrice Haddad-Maya, Kateryna Sinyakova was eliminated

Beatrice Haddad-Maya, the player who won her only WTA titles this year (in Nottingham and Birmingham / also played in the final in Toronto), lost to Kateryna Siniakova (world doubles leader, partner of Barbora Krejcikova).

The player from the Czech Republic (54 WTA in singles) won after an hour and 37 minutes of play against the 11th favorite with a score of 7-5, 6-2.

In the next round, Siniakova will meet the winner of the match between Japanese Nao Hibino (148 WTA) and Italian Martina Trevisan (28 WTA).

The Guadalajara Open Akron 2022 is a WTA 1000 event with a total prize pool of $2,527,250 and a starting main draw of 64 players. The competition takes place from October 17 to 23. The main favorites of the competition in Mexico are Paula Badosa (1), Arina Sabalenko (2), Jessica Pegula (3) and Maria Sakkari (4).
