US President Joe Biden will receive his Israeli counterpart Isaac Herzog on October 26 in Washington, according to a message published on Monday by the spokeswoman of the White House, AFP and Agerpres reported.

President Herzog’s visit to the US capital, Israel’s closest ally, will last two days. According to Karin Jean-Pierre, the two leaders will discuss “key topics, especially regional and global challenges.”

The visit comes at a time of tension over the future of Iran’s nuclear program, as the Biden administration tries to salvage a deal that would restore international oversight of the program in exchange for the lifting of sanctions on Tehran, while Israel opposes its restart.

“The prosperity and security of Israelis and Palestinians” will be another topic on the agenda, according to a White House spokeswoman.

The trip to Washington also comes in the context of last week’s historic deal ending the long-brokered US-brokered maritime border dispute between Israel and Lebanon.

AFP notes that parliamentary elections will be held in Israel on November 1.
