PSD MEP Victor Negrescu was elected Vice-President of the Party of European Socialists at the Congress held in Berlin at the end of this week.
“I had the honor to be elected during the Congress of the Party of European Socialists (PES) in Berlin to the position of vice-president at the European level of PES with a view to the European elections in 2024. It is a success that a representative of the Social Democratic Party holds such an important responsibility at the level of the European Social Democratic family. I want to thank President Marcel Čolak for his support and trust. PSD has returned to the European social democratic family, and today it is really important at the European level. I am proud to join a strong team led by our new leader, former Prime Minister of Sweden Stefan Löfven, First Vice President Iraçe García Pérez, Leader of the S&D Group in the European Parliament, and Secretary General, German MEP Achim Post, whom I thank for the support with which we strive together to win the European elections in 2024,” Negrescu said, according to a PSD press release.
According to him, Romania’s support is also confirmed by the inclusion in the resolution approved at the PES Congress of a request for Romania’s admission to the Schengen zone.
