What was Vasile Dinku doing while Bucharest was planning his release? In a Facebook post, the defense minister doesn’t say a word about the backlash he caused with his statements about negotiations with Russia, but says he stopped at the point where “the voice of idiots cannot be heard.”
The post is replete with harsh statements such as “the babble of fools”, “the honeyed whisper of scoundrels”, “solemn laziness, weak-mindedness or aggressive illiteracy”, “morons and mediocrity”.
At the end of his post about the “hidden paradise” he found in a bookstore, Vasile Dinku concludes that “silent friends on the shelves never betray or lie.”
Dinku’s post comes days after he had only one public response to criticism from President Ioannis, PSD leader Marcel Çolaka and Prime Minister Nicolae Chuke, who criticized his announcement of peace talks with Russia.
What Dîncu wrote on Facebook:
-
“After three exhausting days, with two free hours left before the plane, I find a place where I once spent many hours and days: the Filigranes bookstore. In a few months, I seem to have forgotten that these heavenly places still exist in the world. Here is a completely different world and incredible silence. Here you can’t hear the voice of idiots, the silence is only occasionally broken by the soft rustling of pages. Here the books are waiting for you neatly, lined up like soldiers in formation. Staying here is a real therapy, a bandage on a bleeding wound. Neither the rascals of fools, nor the honeyed whispers of scoundrels penetrate here.
-
From here you can take the energy not to pay attention to serious laziness, cowardice or aggressive illiteracy. Here you realize that you are separated from their planet by the book walls of several libraries. They will never understand how a limitless world opens behind the bitter cardboard cover. They will never know that there is such a fortress with walls of air, but which they cannot penetrate to throw stones. Heaven is hidden here, and Christians and mediocrity will never understand that here their world does not exist and does not matter.
-
Here, mediocrity and impostors will never meet their innocent victims because they cannot touch the most powerful weapon in the world: ideas. Rejected by this idea, they will never have citizenship or refugee status here.
-
Finally, silent friends on the shelves never betray or lie. Be a blessed republic of thought, speech and silence!”
Defense Minister Vasile Dinku expressed his dissatisfaction on Thursday with the way events developed after his statement regarding negotiations with Russia on peace in Ukraine. He says that so far no one has asked him to resign and blames the UDR for “the scandal that happened in Bucharest.”
After returning to the country from the NATO meeting in Brussels, Prime Minister Nicolae Chuke will ask Vasile Dinka to resign from the government, sources in the Coalition told HotNews.ro.
In an intervention on the Prima TV channel, the Minister of Defense of Romania stated that “the war in Ukraine will continue and that the only chance for peace may be negotiations with Russia.”
“Of course, these are difficult negotiations (…) The countries of the world, NATO, the USA should conduct negotiations for Ukraine about security guarantees and peace with Russia. Ukraine itself will not be able to negotiate with Russia, because the political class in Ukraine cannot now allow, assume (…) the loss of territories, the ultimately unjust loss of territories. It would be too big a defeat for politics,” he said.
Defense Minister Vasile Dinka’s statements, in turn, were supported by President Klaus Iohannis, PSD leader Marcel Cholaku and Prime Minister Nicolae Chuke.
“In this war, Russia is attacking Ukraine. In this war, Ukrainians are paying with blood, and we all have to accept the opinion that only Ukraine will decide when, how and what to negotiate. This position is our official position, this is the official position of the European Union, and probably some of our senior figures need to read the press journal more often to learn about these positions,” Johannis said on Tuesday.
Vasile Dinku, “as a personal, collegial opinion, categorically yes, he was wrong,” Marcel Colaku said on Wednesday, arguing that when you are the defense minister in a country in a conflict zone, you cannot have “personal opinions, beliefs.”
In addition, he insisted that Dinku did not consult with either President Iohannis or Prime Minister Chuke before making statements about negotiations with Russia.
“I am waiting for the minister to return to the country from the NATO ministry. We want a discussion that is as open as possible to your opinion. This is not the opinion of the government, and then we will have to resolve this issue very clearly,” Nikolae Chuke said on Thursday.
