​The list of countries at Eurovision 2023 may be smaller than in the last edition of the competition.

North Macedonia and Montenegro have announced they will not participate in Eurovision 2023, citing financial problems and high costs due to the energy crisis.

“In addition to the significant cost of the entry fee, as well as the cost of being in the UK, we faced a lack of interest from sponsors. Thus, we decided to direct the available resources to the financing of current and planned national projects, as well as to organizational and program reforms,” ​​the Montenegrin broadcaster said, according to the site dedicated to Eurovision.

Due to the economic and energy crisis and high costs, North Macedonia will not participate in the Eurovision Song Contest 2023, the Macedonian television company also announced.

Since 2007, Montenegro has participated in Eurovision 12 times. He qualified for the Grand Final 2 times out of 12: in 2014 with the song “My World” by Serhii Ćetković and in 2015 with the song “Adio” by Knez. Knez finished 13th, which is also the best result for Montenegro.

North Macedonia took part in the Eurovision Song Contest for the first time in 1998 and has participated 21 times (until 2018 under the name FYR Macedonia – Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia). Macedonia’s best result was in 2019, when Tamara Todevska won the jury vote and took 7th place overall with the song “Proud”. Macedonians have only managed to qualify for the Grand Final 6 times out of 18 since the semi-finals were introduced in 2004. They have only qualified for the Grand Final twice in the last 14 years.

From Ukraine, “Eurovision-2023” will be held in Great Britain, in Liverpool

The Eurovision Song Contest in 2023 will be held in Great Britain from Ukraine due to the war started by Russia. The event will be held at the Liverpool Arena and will consist of two semi-finals, on 9 and 11 May, with the final taking place on 13 May 2023.

Great Britain, which has hosted Eurovision eight times, has not hosted the European music competition since 1998, when the show was held in Birmingham, a city in central England.

After the first place at the contest organized in Turin in May of this year, Ukraine was withdrawn in June by the European Radio and Television Union (EBU) the right to hold the 67th Eurovision Song Contest, as security conditions cannot be met in the country. Ukraine after this country was captured by Russia on February 24.

On July 25, the EBU and the UK government announced an agreement with the BBC to host the competition next year in Great Britain, the country that came second in the 2022 ranking behind Ukraine, which won with the Kalush Orchestra. At that time, 20 British cities took part in the competition for Eurovision 2023 from Ukraine.

Recognized by UNESCO as a City of Music in 2015, Liverpool is synonymous with the history of The Beatles and has a rich music scene. In 2008, Liverpool hosted the MTV Europe Music Awards and is also home to a prestigious orchestra, the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra.
