On Thursday, October 13, Transgaz resumed the procedure for buying imported natural gas to balance the National Transport System (NTS), having not received a single offer at a similar auction that started in August this year. According to the Electronic System for Public Procurement (SEAP), the new contract has an estimated value of 1.04 billion to 1.3 billion lei.

Currently, Transgaz is requesting a total contractual volume of natural gas of 94.9 million cubic meters, which can be supplemented by a maximum of 25% through an additional act, depending on the specific needs of the remaining physical balancing of the SNT.

Earlier, at the auction in August of this year, “Transgaz” demanded a total contractual volume of natural gas of 128 million cubic meters. At that time, the value of the contract sold at the auction was between 1.07 billion and 1.34 billion lei.

It’s just that at the auction in August, “Transgaz” did not receive a single offer, as shown by SEAP data.

Why Transgaz wants to buy imported gas

In the specifications of the new tender, Transgaz notes that this contract is necessary to cover short-term fluctuations in gas demand or supply.

  • “If during the periods of maximum demand (January-March) gas sources of internal production and natural gas storages are used to the maximum, and the volumes of gas purchased on the exchanges as short-term standardized products do not cover the need for gas. that to maintain SNT within working limits, the only available source of supporting SNT within working limits is imports.”, this is stated in the tender specifications.

SNT balancing services will be provided only upon a clear request from Transgaz.

The term of the contract is 01.01.2023 – 03.31.2023, during which the services will be provided. The contract can be extended for one month by an additional act at the request of Transgaz.
