
A meeting was held today with the Secretary General civil protectionVassilios Papageorgiou, for the optimal coordination of all jointly competent authorities and the best treatment of the consequences bad weather which is expected to affect several regions of the country from tonight.
The meeting was attended by deputy regional governors and civil protection coordinators from the regions of the Ionian Islands, Epirus and Western Greece, representatives of the Central Union of Municipalities and Communities (KEDE), as well as the regional fire service coordinators of the respective regions.
The Secretary General of Civil Protection stressed to all participants the need for high alert and full vigilance to ensure that any issues related to expected heavy rains and storms are dealt with immediately. In this regard, the 112 service will be activated if it is deemed necessary to send warning messages to residents, depending on the course of the phenomenon.
It is recalled that according to Extreme Weather Bulletin published today, Thursday, October 13, 2022 National Meteorological Service (NMS)the weather will worsen from Thursday night (10/13/2022) to Sunday morning hours (10/16/2022) in western and southern Greece with heavy rains and storms accompanied by a high frequency of lightning, hail and temporary, during phenomena, from strong winds.

- From today Thursday evening (10/13/2022) until Friday evening (10/14/2022), heavy rains and storms are predicted in the Ionian Islands, Epirus and Western Sterea.
- Tomorrow Friday (10/14/2022) strong phenomena will affect the western Peloponnese from early morning, the eastern Peloponnese from noon and gradually from noon the western Cyclades. Rainfall will be heavy at times in the southern parts of Thessaly and central Sterea.
- On Saturday (10/15/2022) heavy rains and storms are predicted in the western and southern Cyclades and Crete. In the afternoon, the phenomena in the Cyclades will weaken, but will remain in Crete, and in some places will touch the Dodecanese. In Crete and the Dodecanese, phenomena are expected to weaken in the morning hours of Sunday (10/16/2022).

The General Secretariat for Civil Protection (www.civilprotection.gr) of the Ministry of Climate Crises and Civil Protection has informed the relevant competent state authorities, as well as the regions and municipalities of the country, to be in an enhanced civil protection regime. readiness to face directly the consequences of the occurrence of intense weather events.
At the same time, the General Secretariat for Civil Protection recommends that citizens take extra care to protect themselves from the risks posed by severe weather events.
