​David Schumacher, grandson of the legendary Michael Schumacher, has broken his spine following an accident that occurred during the Hockenheim race, the final stage of the 2022 DTM season.

Ralf Schumacher’s son and Thomas Preining collided at Turn 8. The Winward Mercedes driver was later taken to hospital in Ludwigshafen, about 30km from the circuit, where initial checks showed he had a scratched knee and bruises on his lumbar spine, motosport.com reports. .

A few days after the accident, Ralf Schumacher revealed that his son suffered a fractured lumbar vertebra and will need six weeks to recover. The good news is that David will not need surgery.

“When David got home, he was still complaining of back pain. We decided to go to a hospital in Salzburg to get an MRI. A fracture of the lumbar vertebra was found. According to the doctors, for David, this is about six weeks off” – Ralf Schumacher.
