A few weeks ago, Apple introduced everything with great fanfare new iPhone 14. As always, this presentation clearly scared the fans of the Apple brand, especially since it acquires new technologies that can be very interesting. Among them is a new system that makes it possible to detect road accidents. When a collision is detected by the phone, it can directly contact emergency services. All thanks to the many sensors installed in the smartphone of the latest generation. It is a particularly useful tool for motorists, when sometimes firefighters need several hours or even days to find a victim of an accident.
Since the iPhone 14 went on sale, 911 dispatchers at Kings Island Amusement Park have received at least six phone calls saying:
“The owner of this iPhone was involved in a serious car accident…”
Besides, the owner was just on a roller coaster.

Too efficient?
Someone may doubt the effectiveness of this system. Moreover, YouTubers recently tested the latter to see if it works properly, and indeed it does. But could this device be too good after all? It may well be so. Our American colleagues at the very serious Wall Street Journal do report several cases where accident detection called for help even when it wasn’t necessary. And especially when the owner of the phone is just having fun Russian mountains. Sensors then detect the carousel’s sudden movements and then notify 911. Several cases have been reported in recent weeks.
.
False notifications
When the system thinks detect an accident, it sends a message to the owner of the phone to see if everything is OK. If not, an automated voice message is sent to emergency services stating that “the owner of this iPhone has been involved in a serious car accident and is not answering the phone.” An audio recording of the surrounding situation is also sent, as well as an SMS message to relatives with the victim’s GPS coordinates. It remains to be seen if Apple can fix the problem so that aid doesn’t go to waste at the expense of other emergencies…
