With the opening of the KTEL door in Agrinio for “captsa” Nice (Kora Karvounis) and “I-don’t-like-it-is-so-much-but-what-to-do” Zeta (Iliana Mavromati), two folk singers with strong escapist tendencies and dark backgrounds, you can almost expect the Pavlovians to follow them story from hell.
Instead, for at least the first two episodes of his highly publicized television adaptation “This night remains” his books Thanos Alexandris from which his film also borrowed Nikos Panagiotopoulos 2000, unfolds before our eyes a narrative desperately trying to descend one by one the steps of hell, called “doghouse in the 80s”, but sometimes he is afraid of burning.
Those who are familiar with the film version of This Night Lives will quickly abandon the game of Where Was It, I Don’t Remember? as the only thing the series essentially shares with the movie is provincial night scene.
If you persist in the cinematic hunt, then in front of him he will find not Nikos Panagiotopoulos, but Yannis Economides. OUR “The Ballad of a Hole in the Heart” is constantly repeated in a line. Night club “Krokodeilos” is baptized “Dream”, the singer and the owner of the cattery here will only take on the role of the owner Army (fixed version of Vassilis Bispikis), and the place of the mother with “strawberry shit” will be taken by a walking singer Diamanto (Anna Masha) with… rice milk. As for the love triangle, even after the holiday, it changes the subject here (avoid major spoilers). For plaster you need a little: Vassilis Bispikis, Yannis Zortekis, George Yiannopoulos already passed before our eyes, and we are waiting Vicki Papadopoulou.
Sex and death will never stop being sold, which is why the series, like other domestic Twin Peaks, begins with murder, for which the question marks gradually and steadily increase in the following episodes, any nuggets before the final answer will thrill us and unify the mystery of history.

What if “This Night Stays” is, of course, we see the characters mostly in daylight. In fact, sometimes we wonder if the main story is about people from the nightclub “Dream” or whether the creators of the series want to make mosaic of the provincial microcosm of Agrinio, since we are almost equally concerned about the stories of the mayor (Janis Stankoglu)local newspaper reporter (Georgos Pirpasopoulos), about a little girl who works as a flower but also helps in the parish (Anastasia Tsilibiu). And if it all comes to a “tie” through a nightclub, that’s fine, but what if we end up seeing a dramatic version of Kolokotronitsios, another domestic television series set in the countryside, at the behest of the audience of recent years?
One thing is certain: such an enterprise she must “stink” like a kennel. A number, however, is often wasted on “to convey a message.” Yes, we see what it means to be a woman trying to survive in a society full of male piranhas who are trying to “squeeze” you out of the coffee shop into the pub. However, there is a sense that the whole thing takes on a didactic texture over time, culminating in Bisbica’s viral tirade. “When a woman says no to you, she means no” which is quite unbelievable to hear from a dog kennel owner in the mid-80s who otherwise, he turns to his female employees with a request for a dowry.
Perhaps, after all, the only point where the show should have used the economic style is in the dialogues in The Dream. After all, 22 years ago, the film of the same name, through sharp, sometimes vulgar phrases and dirty tobacco succeeded in highlighting sexism much more effectively precisely because he did not have to step on the principles of neo-feminism.
There are other issues that may prove problematic over the course of the series, such as penchant for melodrama especially in regards to the mayor’s dead wife and family mourning (I always find the fictional resurrection of characters in fiction unnecessary, if not extremely inconvenient).
And then, there is the visual. This push of the local community to the fore in “This Night Stays” ultimately also sets the tone for the angle we’re likely to see the story from: the couch, the “family,” these are people for whom doghouses are only (terrible) stories.
Of course, good performances sometimes save a lot. OUR Anna Masha she handles the interpretive transition from a veteran track and field athlete to a loving mother who does everything she does now for her child in a classy and comfortable way. For Iliana Mavromati manages to capture on her face (which is very similar to the British singer Nilofer Jania, look at her) desperation, magic and sensitivity at the same time.
How then does Stratis not fixate on Zeta with his gaze? However, it remains to be seen whether this night will remain here for a long time – both for the main characters and, above all, for the audience.
