Suspected African swine fever at a farm in Partza has been confirmed and 39,000 animals will be slaughtered, Timis County prefect Mihai Ritivou said, adding that “the priority is to protect two other farms, each with tens of thousands of pigs and located just a few kilometers away “, reports news.ro.
“Unfortunately, the diagnosis was confirmed. An outbreak of African swine fever has been officially recorded in Timisoara on a pig farm in Parka. What’s next? Destruction of 39,000 animals and taking measures to combat the spread of the disease. Sacrifice the pigs and bury them in safe conditions,” Prefect Timis said on Wednesday morning.
Mihai Ritivou reports that the authorities have already identified the land where the burial will take place on Tuesday and established the procedure to be followed.
“Today, at 12:00, we gathered the local commission for the fight against diseases to coordinate the measures. African swine fever does not affect humans, there is no risk of disease, but it is highly contagious among pigs and causes huge economic losses. The priority is to protect two other farms, each containing tens of thousands of pigs and located just a few kilometers away,” the prefect also said.
