PSD President Marcel Cholaku said on Monday at the end of a meeting with PSD mayors that a new formula for applying the property tax is being sought. According to the SDP leader, in the near future local elected officials will make a proposal.

“The amendment is not very clear and they want to come with some clarifications and they will also come with a proposal to the group leaders. Let’s not make noise. Raising local taxes in no way helps the state budget, where salaries or pensions come from. These are two completely different things. Municipal mayors have a different formula and vision, and AMR will make a proposal. You know very well that this increase in property, which helps local budgets, was done three months ago, by emergency order.(…) Mayors came and technically explained that this cannot be done. He came up with this amendment with a 50% increase, but the ratio remained, that is, there was decentralization and each mayor came and proposed whether to increase or not. With the notary grid, it was very clear, depending on where your property was. Now we are looking for another formula that will be applicable and correct,” said Marcel Čolaku after the PSD National Political Council meeting on Monday.

The statement of President Marcel Cholaku was made after a meeting with the mayors of the PSD, who expressed their dissatisfaction with the solution found by the Ministry of Finance, led by the social democrat Adrian Cachiu. More precisely, the mayors do not agree with the proposal that was discussed in the parliament at the specialized commissions in the field of property tax in terms of preserving the current form of the law, but increasing the taxable value by 50%.

It will be recalled that last week the senators of the PSD-PNL-UDMR coalition submitted an amendment to the decree on the tax increase, which provided for a 50% increase in the taxable value. Prime Minister Nicolae Chuke announced that the option of establishing these taxes using notarial grids is being delayed after local authorities warned that this could not be achieved by the end of 2022.
