Romania was lucky in the draw, the tricolor avoided famous European names in the preliminary matches before Euro-2024. Former multi-mandate selector Viktor Pitsurka has been talking about Romania’s group and chances of reaching the final tournament for more than two years.
FRF calculations – The opponent with whom Romania will have no emotions in the qualifying match for Euro-2024
Viktor Pitsurka says that Romania should fight for the first two places in such a group
In the qualifying matches for Euro 2024, the “tricolor” will meet Switzerland, Israel, Kosovo, Belarus and Andorra, and Viktor Pitsurka believes that the first representative should fight for the first two places.
“Of course, Switzerland is very high in the FIFA rankings, 15, they have valuable players who play in strong championships, but you can also win against them. Switzerland is also not a team to be feared.
We leave with the idea of the first or second place, which automatically leads to the final tournament.
I also once competed for first place with the Netherlands and we managed to make that dream come true. Why shouldn’t those who are in charge now think the same way?” – Viktor Pitsyurkaat the Pro Arena.
Ciprian Marica, former striker of the Romanian national team, does not necessarily think so.
“Even if we had picked it ourselves (no group in preliminaries), we couldn’t have picked that well. Edi Iordanescu is also lucky, he has a group available. Available, not easy.
1 place? Let’s not dream yet. The idea is that we have a chance” – Cyprian Marika.
What does Romania’s program look like in the preliminary competitions before EURO-2024
The EURO 2024 preliminary tournament matches will take place between March and November 2023 and will determine the 20 qualified teams (top two from each group).
