We have computer programs from which we extract data from all these social platforms, said Lucian Geius, head of ANAF, in an interview with B1TV, referring to influencers.
“These sites are of a different nature, and we have to admit that lately there are people who are making a lot of money from the activities they do on these platforms,” he said.
- We have a special department for the online environment, and in the first 9 months we made 58 tax rulings with a total value of 6.5 million lei in unpaid taxes.
“In the database, we see individuals from Romania who have extensive access to their accounts. We study the bank accounts they opened in Romania: what kind of income they get from these social platforms. We know where each site is, where the money comes from,” said Lucian Geiusz.
- If we see that the money received in this person’s account does not match with what this person declared during the submission of the individual income declaration, then we catch them during the inspection and go to check why they did not declare partially. There were situations when they did not declare significant sums of money at all. We find them.
According to him, today ANAF has access to several databases.
“We can check any individual, how many apartments, land, houses and cars he has. We have protocols with all banks in Romania and with many banking institutions in Europe and other countries. We see what amounts appear. We also check how much they have lent to their own enterprises,” he explained.
- The Tax Office also has protocols with other states that are not part of the EU. It is very difficult with those who open offshore in tax havens. That doesn’t mean we don’t try to find information.
- The most difficult thing is with cash that circulates and is never in the banking system.
