Germany: More than 1 million Ukrainian refugees have been registered since the beginning of the war

More than a million Ukrainians have fled to Germany since the start of the Russian invasion in February, according to the German Interior Ministry.

There are 1,002,763 people registered in the country to date, Home Secretary Nancy Feiser told news site T-Online today.

“We saved the lives of many women and children from Ukraine,” the minister stressed.

“The longer the war goes on, the harder it is to accept and care for so many refugees,” he continued.

However, regarding the number of Ukrainian refugees in Germany, it is not clear how many of those who entered the country have already left.

New data published today by Eurostat shows that Poland received the most Ukrainians in August (67,280 citizens), while 62,140 Ukrainians arrived in Germany in the same month. According to Eurostat, compared to the previous month, the number of Ukrainian refugees arriving in Poland increased by 9,990, with a growing influx also recorded in France and Romania.

About 1.3 million Ukrainian refugees were still living in the country in September, according to the Polish government, although Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki spoke of more than 2 million in June. More and more Ukrainian refugees are returning to their country, which shares a 500-kilometer border with Poland, Warsaw said in September.
