Elise also beat Jacqueline Christian (82 WTA), Despina Papamichael (175 WTA), Moyuka Uchijima (124 WTA) and Claire Liu (73 WTA) in Monastir.
This is the seventh title in the Belgian’s career. Mertens also won in Hobart (2017, 2018), Rabat, Lugano (2018), Doha (2019) and the Gippsland Trophy (2021).
The tournament in Monastir with a total prize money of $251,750 marked the debut of the WTA series, becoming the second WTA tournament in Africa after the tournament in Rabat (Morocco).
