Three new metro stations in Piraeus were commissioned on Monday.

Three new metro stations in Piraeus: “Maniatika”, “Piraeus” and “Municipal Theatre” will be handed over to the public tomorrow, Monday, October 10, at two o’clock in the afternoon.

This project is expected to breathe life into Piraeus’ transportation challenge as the city’s mode of urban mobility is changing.

According to the responsible persons, with the functioning of the above stations, a daily increase in the total passenger flow through the metro network by 132,000 citizens per day is expected, while at the same time reducing the movement of cars. vehicles by 23,000 per day, and carbon dioxide emissions by 120 tons per day. It is noted that the total time from the port to the airport will be overcome by the metro in just 55 minutes.

Recall that the continuation of the 3rd line of the Agia Marina – Piraeus metro includes a 7.6 km long tunnel and 6 stations (Agia Varvara, Korydallos, Nicaea, Maniatika, Piraeus and the Municipal Theatre), as well as seven intermediate ventilation shafts. There are now 27 stations on line 3 “Municipal Theater – Duquissis Placencia – Airport”.

According to Attiko Metro, this is an investment of 730 million euros in areas of the municipality of Piraeus and the municipalities of the wider region (Nikea, Korydallos, Agios Varvaras), which are currently experiencing severe traffic problems.

The Piraeus station will now become an important transport hub, as two metro lines (1 and 3), a port, a suburban railway and a tram are functionally connected here, making it easy to transfer between all modes of transport.

Schedules

The frequency of the routes on the section Municipal Theater – Dukissis Placentias during peak hours (07:30 – 11:00 and 13:30 – 17:30) remains at 4′, and at night (22:00 – 00:20) drops to 9. ‘ from 10 ΄. In the Airport – Municipal Theater section, the frequency is set to 36’.

The first route from the stations “Municipal Theater” and “Dukissis Placentia” will start at 05:30. The first flights will start at 05:30 from Egaleo and Monastiraki stations in the direction of Dukissis Plakentias and from the National Defense station in the direction of the Municipal Theatre. The last route (Monday to Thursday and Sunday) from the Municipal Theater will be at 23:59 and from Doukissis Placentias at 00:03.

Restructuring of bus lines in the OSY network

The transport network restructuring plan developed by OASA to interconnect the municipalities in the areas where the new metro stations “Maniatika”, “Piraeus”, “Municipal Theater” are located and to enable new interchanges is based on the strengthening and modification of bus lines. Line reconfiguration is divided into two stages:

In the first phase, with the start of operation of three new stations, direct interventions are envisaged, which will be evaluated after the first period of operation of the stations. Then, and within a reasonable time, the next stage of reconstruction will follow, which will include additional transport measures that will be required after the full operation of line 3, after assessing and evaluating the current situation in the transport network of the wider region.

In more detail, the following interventions were planned:

-Bus route 831 Egaleo – Piraeus reinforced with additional routes during the day.

– The bus line 810 Schistos – Korydallos will be converted into an access line to the Korydallos metro station and will be connected to Petru Ralli Avenue.

– Bus route 830 Agia Varvara – Piraeus will be transformed into an access line to Korydallos metro station.

– Bus route 846 Naples – Nice – Piraeus will be converted into an access line to the Nicaea metro station.

– Bus route 900, which was created over the past 2 years to cover the transitional period between the operation of the Korydallos and Nikaya metro stations and the 3 new Piraeus stations, is being abolished.

The start and end points of the existing bus lines remain the same.

For more information, passengers can call the OASA call center 11185.

At the same time, all information about the routes of the 3rd metro line, as they are formed from Monday, October 10, 2022, is posted on the STA.SY website (www.stasy.gr).
