His prime minister Britannia Liz Truss fired Under Secretary General for Commerce Conor Burns from her government after complaining about him for “serious misconduct” he committed during the annual Conservative Party conference.
A Downing Street spokesman said Burns was asked to “resign immediately from government”.
“The Prime Minister took this action as soon as she was informed of this complaint,” and “all ministers should adopt a code of conduct” similar to what citizens expect of them, he added.
Downing Street did not specify what “crime” Connor Burns is accused of. According to several British media reports, the Deputy Minister behaved “inappropriately” at a party conference held this week in Birmingham, marked by heated debate.
Liz Truss took over as prime minister on September 5, succeeding Boris Johnson, who resigned “wounded” by a series of scandals. Conor Burns, 50, was Secretary of State for Northern Ireland in the Johnson government. He told The Sun that he would “cooperate fully with the investigation” and “hope his name will be cleared.”
Burns was also expelled from the Conservative Party caucus.
