The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, promised that all those who ordered and carried out “merciless” strikes in the city of Zaporizhzhia (southeastern Ukraine) will pay for it.

“Again in Zaporizhzhia. Again, merciless attacks on the civilian population. In residential buildings, right in the middle of the night. Already 12 dead. There are 49 victims in the hospital, including 6 children,” Zelenskyy wrote on Facebook

“What they did is absolute brutality. Absolute evil,” he continued.

“(They are) inhumans and terrorists. From the one who gave this order to everyone who carried out this order. They will be held accountable. Necessarily. Before the law and before the people,” said the President of Ukraine.

Local Ukrainian authorities reported that on the night from Saturday to Sunday, Russian forces fired 12 rockets at residential buildings in the city of Zaporizhzhia, hitting residential buildings, probably in response to the explosion on the Kerch Bridge.

The city, located approximately 52 km from the Russian-occupied nuclear power plant, has been repeatedly bombed in recent weeks. On Thursday, 18 people were killed in the attack.

On the night of Saturday, the bombing led to the termination of the power supply to the nuclear power plant.

Part of the Zaporizhia region, including the nuclear power plant, has been under Russian control since the early days of the Russian invasion, but the city of Zaporizhia, the region’s capital, remains under Ukrainian control.
