Pierre Gasly will team up with compatriot Esteban Ocon at Alpine from the 2023 season, formula1.com reports, with the Frenchman taking the seat left vacant by Fernando Alonso after the two-time world champion signed with Aston Martin.
Pierre Gasly, Fernando Alonso’s replacement at Alpine
The 26-year-old driver had a contract with AlphaTauri for next season, but RedBull agreed to release him early.
“I am delighted to join the Alpine family and start this new chapter in my Formula 1 career. Managing a team with French roots is something special. I know Alpine’s strengths having raced them for the past two years and obviously their progress and ambition is very impressive.
I want to thank Red Bull as this marks the end of our nine-year journey. Thanks to their trust and support, I became a Formula 1 driver and what I have achieved at Scuderia AlphaTauri in recent years has been special.
Looking ahead, I want to do my best and use all my experience to fight for podiums and help Alpine fight for titles in the future” – Pierre Gaslyquoted by formula1.com.
Pierre Gasly has one victory: he won the Italian Grand Prix in Monza in 2020.

Nick de Vries will compete for AlphaTauri
Gasly’s place at AlphaTauri will be taken by Nick de Vries, the Formula 2 and Formula E champion.
The Dutchman scored an impressive number of points on his Williams reserve debut (replacing Alexander Albon) at the Italian Grand Prix last month.
“After Formula 2, I took a slightly different path. But Formula 1 has always been my dream, and I am grateful that I was able to make it come true.” – Nick de Vries.
The signing of Gasly ends the soap opera that began with the announcement of Alonso’s departure. The team was rejected by Oscar Piastri, a participant in the young driver program.
Piastri was announced as Alonso’s replacement at Alpine, but the Australian eventually signed for McLaren and will make his F1 debut next season.
