Novak Djokovic is often compared to Spider-Man for his qualities on the tennis court, and Serbian scientists have gone ahead and named the former ATP leader after a cockroach.
The Serbian press, cited by Reuters, said the insect was named after Djokovic because of its speed, stability, flexibility, endurance and ability to survive in difficult conditions.
The insect, a Duvalius type beetle, was discovered a few years ago underground in western Serbia.
According to researcher Nikolay Vesovych, the beetle got its name Duvalius Djokovic.
Vesovich clarified that the beetle in question is part of the order of coleopterans and lives underground, at a great depth, so it cannot see.
“I proposed to call the new species Djokovic. This is a person who has done a lot for this country. We consider ourselves obliged to repay him as we can” – Nikola Vesovychquoted by News.ro.
