Next Wednesday, one of the capital’s most important post-war buildings enters a new life cycle.
The reason for the Athens Conservatory, the symbolic work of the life of the great Greek modernist architect Ioannis Despotopoulos (1903-1992), was the only one of the buildings envisioned in the visionary plan of Konstantinos Karamanlis for the Athens Intellectual Center and which was finally realized. However, the project was handed over in 1976 unfinished, and about half of the premises have been functioning for many years. This “spelling error” came to correct the project for the completion and modernization of the cultural infrastructure of the Athens Conservatory, a project which, fortunately, was included in the NSRF, based on the final studies of the bureau Thymios Papagiannis & Associates, which was funded exclusively by cultural institutions and private sources.

The infrastructure of the conservatory has been significantly updated. The organizers and visitors of the International Journalism Week, organized by the non-profit journalistic organization iMEdD (media education and development incubator) from October 5 to 9, will be able to enjoy them first. In its fourth year, iMEdD returns with an expanded and updated annual event centered on the issue of trust in journalism to delve deeper into causes, effects and possible ways to restore public trust. For the first time, two pan-Greek surveys conducted by the Department of Public Opinion and Market Research of the University of Macedonia on behalf of iMEdD will be presented and will reveal interesting points about public opinion towards journalism. It is significant that while 89.5% of citizens believe that journalism is necessary for democracy, the same public responds that they do not trust the media, while the level of distrust in them reaches a disappointing 67.5%.

Renowned Greek and international speakers, journalists and media professionals (among them “K” director Alexis Papachelas and renowned CNN journalist Christiana Amanpour) speak out and share their experiences. The five-day program will be enriched by numerous workshops, keynotes, panel discussions, case studies, special screenings and other events.
