The municipality has cut investments due to a lack of money, General Mayor Nikushor Dan said on Europa FM on Tuesday, noting the “imbalance” between the capital city’s funds and the sector’s funds.

“This deficit division has been going on for 20 years. Many investments have not been made, the fact that there are bridges that do not have proper maintenance comes from a lack of money. This year we could do, for example, the strengthening of the second half of the Grant Bridge, which is necessary, but we did not have the money. We could strengthen the shores of the lake in Herăstrău. We change the asphalt in vain, if the shore of the lake slides, then the alley will obviously break (…). There are things we cross off our investment list precisely because we don’t have the money. Instead, we went to European funds,” Nikusor Dan said, according to Agerpres.

According to him, it is not normal when the municipality has smaller allocations than branch municipalities.

“This is an imbalance that I am not only pointing out now, since I became mayor, I pointed it out when Sorin Oprescu was mayor. It is not normal that the city hall of the capital, which has a subsidy for heating and a subsidy for public transport – about 1 billion lei also for public transport, hospitals and all theaters and public lighting, traffic lights and many other services, including the lines we draw, in including on the asphalt to mark the city – it is not normal for us to have less sectors that have schools, sanitation and parks that we also have,” Nikushor Dan noted.

He noted that he entrusted the work to the sectors.

“It makes no sense to block the works because we want to do them ourselves, so we found thermal insulation of the blocks, we transferred them to the sectors (…). This is the expansion of the Grigorescu Passage, which the municipalities of sectors 3 and 4 want to do together, we gave it to them, we are only doing expropriations, Sector 1 expressed the intention to leave Bihara with Henri Coande neighborhood, if it wants – we will do it, we will give it.” Nikushor Dan added.
