P&G brings nature to the city

In recent years, numerous studies have shown that contact with a small amount of greens can improve our mood as well as overall well-being. Maybe it sounds logical, but at the same time one inevitably thinks that the lack of time is likely to interfere with the relationship with nature. Most studies, however, conclude that it is not necessary to travel long distances to find the nearest forest or forest. Even contact with a small amount of greenery in a city can have a very positive impact on your life. However, among the gray cities it is often quite difficult to find at least a little nature in which you can “immerse yourself” in order to disconnect from the bustle of the city. We all know that in recent years our cities need greenery and sources of oxygen more than ever. P&G is trying in its own way to help us with this by creating pocket parks in densely populated areas of big cities.

Through the “We are building pocket parks to make our cities more sustainable” program and the power of Ariel, Fairy and Always products, P&G, in collaboration with local agencies and the Earth Organization, is using abandoned spaces in cities and turning them into sources of greenery. , sips of coolness and meeting and resting places for young and old. Throughout the construction process, nature plays a leading role as biophilic design principles are largely respected. Most of the structures were built from recycled and environmentally friendly materials, and solutions based on the concepts of sustainability and circular economy were implemented. At the same time, all city infrastructure and equipment have been completely renovated, and lighting has been enhanced with advanced technology off-grid photovoltaic systems in order to reduce light pollution.

In addition to the ten pocket parks created so far in the regions of Attica and Thessaloniki, two more will be added in the region of Agios Dimitrios. Two more spaces on the streets of Naxos and Trifillias and Naxos and Murganas have turned into sips of greenery. In the park on the streets of Naxos and Triphyllia, with an area of 161 sq. m, more than 270 trees and plants have been added, including pomegranates, tangerines, almonds, sage, jasmine, etc. At the same time, garbage cans have been installed. a solar-powered mobile device charger has also been installed to meet the charging needs of park visitors.

You can enjoy cypresses, myrtle trees, verbenas, daffodils and about 280 other plants by visiting the 242 square meter pocket park on Naxos and Murganas streets. The park also has three different ecosystems inspired by the elements of nature, as well as a central biodiversity island. In each section, plantings are differentiated, while some designs further enhance the character of each ecosystem. Both parks have benches for visitors to sit and enjoy the greenery. With the addition of these two parks, P&G was able to create 5,100 sqm in 1.5 years. greenery with more than 7200 trees and plants.

Having a space to take a few breaths before work or take a walk during the day can provide countless moments of relaxation and wellness for a large group of people. In fact, one of the two parks is located in front of the school, so the smallest residents of the area can play and socialize in spaces where there is more nature and less cement. The value of this project is clearly invaluable as these parks enhance the aesthetics of the area and contribute to the improvement of the living standards of its residents. They may be pocket parks, but their contribution is certainly not small.
