“Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story”: what the journalist who covered the events says about the series

His new crime series Netflix with title”Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story(“Dahmer is a Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story”) caused discussions on the network – and not only – from viewers and critics. In particular, the series has been subject to many criticisms regarding the moral aspect of the content.

In my TV show Ryan Murphy (“American Horror Story,” “Hollywood,” “Glee”) some have questioned the impact depicting such horrific events could have had on the families of the Milwaukee killer’s victims. Others are tired of the abundance of true crime series and consider this genre useless.

Recently, journalist Ann Schwartz, who first broke Dahmer’s story while working on a police report for the Milwaukee Journal in 1991, reviewed the series and found several flaws. In a new interview with The Independent, Schwartz criticized Murphy’s idea, believing that the series “has no resemblance to the real events of the case.”

The journalist said that Glenda Cleveland, played by Nissy Nash, was not Dahmer’s neighbor, and this detail immediately caught her attention and distracted from the rest of the story. It also made her question the accuracy of the show’s presentation of events.

“In the first five minutes of the first episode, Glenda Cleveland knocks on Dahmer’s door. It never happened. I had a problem, I knew it was wrong. But people don’t see it that way, for them television is a means of entertainment.”

Schwartz also disagrees with the show’s decision to portray the police investigating the case as homophobic and biased, which she sees as unfair treatment of people she has spent a lot of time with at work.

“He was found with these people at the scene. I know it’s part of the drama, but at a time when it’s not easy for law enforcement to win the trust of the citizens, it’s a useless performance.”
