Ukraine wants to host the 2030 World Cup together with Spain and Portugal
British journalists report that Ukraine is very close to being accepted into the joint candidacy that Spain and Portugal have already announced.
According to the source, Ukraine will host one of the groups of the tournament, the plan is supported by the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi and the governments of Spain and Portugal.
The new partnership could be announced on Wednesday during a press conference to be held at UEFA headquarters.
Football can bring back hope and peace
The main idea of this option is that football can bring back hope and peace, since Ukraine is at war with Russia.
Although security guarantees are needed, the organizers expect that by 2030 the Russian invasion will stop for a while and the country’s recovery will continue fully, according to News.ro.
Another common option for holding the World Cup in 2030 is Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Greece.
South America is also a common candidate: Uruguay, Argentina, Paraguay and Chile.
UEFA says that the 2030 World Cup should be hosted by Europe, with the final tournament to be held in Qatar this year and in 2026 in the USA, Canada and Mexico.
It is expected that the host of the 2030 World Cup will be chosen at the FIFA Congress for more than two years.
