An unprecedented crisis in the Mykolaiv region in the south of Ukraine – reports Radio Romania News correspondent Alexandru Buzike. People have no access to water after the Russians bombed all the pipes supplying the city.
One of the main pipes went towards the Kherson region, occupied by the armed forces of the Russian Federation. However, in the center of Mykolaiv, on Shefchenko Street, they found an underground source of drinking water, the only one where people can stock up.
About 200,000 people use 3 faucets in one place. They come with buckets of plastic bottles (two to five liters each), sometimes even with barrels to collect water, both for themselves and for elderly or low-income neighbors.
There are also humanitarian tents of the Red Cross, the World Central Kitchen, and Ukrainian Truth around this source. Khrystyna is 34 years old and lives in Mykolaiv. She explained how they got drinking water.
“The water comes from an underground source. All this became possible after several organizations dug, thinking that water would be found. In addition, this water can be drunk.
Until three days ago, we had water in our houses, but it could not be used for anything, it was brown. We don’t have gas, we couldn’t heat it to remove impurities.
Now it is nothing more than a resource for thousands of people. We don’t even have windows in our houses anymore, because they were blown out by the explosions. The mayor together with other officials brought us temporary wooden signs instead of windows.
We have been bombarded every night for over 7 months, I don’t know how we are coping, I really don’t. We just got used to it,” says the young woman.

“When I asked her how she resisted, the young woman told me she was used to it and smiled at me! Even if she had the opportunity to leave the city to quieter areas, she does not do it, because Mykolaiv is her home.
There are hundreds of thousands of people like her in this city in the south of the country. In another neighborhood in the center of the city, where the S-300 missile fell, I met Nadia.
A 60-year-old woman who carried two bags of water for a sick neighbor. Naidiya was very upset. “I am going with this water to an acquaintance who needs help and is left alone with her child. Before the start of the war, this woman had everything she needed, and after the bombing, she was left with only clothes.
I was born in Russia, but I have been here for a long time. It is not right that they say that we love Russia, it is not right.
I love Ukraine more than those who live here. It’s sad that they invaded, it’s not our fault,” says the woman.

Regardless of whether they are from Russia or Ukraine, the people of Mykolaiv help each other more than ever and show solidarity,
That is why most journalists who come here call them real heroes. Evening fell over the city, and sounds of alarm echoed through the streets of the city.
Everyone stands in fear and does not know where the next Russian missile will hit again. But tomorrow will be a new day, with hope for the citizens of the SOUTH on the front lines! A section for attachments,” informs Alexandru Buzike.
