Kremlin on Nord Stream: leaks look like “terrorist energy”

Incidents at two major underwater gas pipelines Nord Stream 1 as well as 2 in the Baltic Sea from Russia in Germany resemble a “terrorist act” and require investigation in cooperation with a number of countries, his spokesman said today Kremlin Dmitry Peskov, noting that Russia suspects “the involvement of a foreign state”, without naming a specific country.

“It is very difficult to imagine that such a terrorist attack could be carried out without the participation of the state,” the Kremlin spokesman said, again calling for an “urgent investigation.”

“This is an extremely dangerous situation,” Peskov repeated after Russia launched an investigation into an “international terrorist act” yesterday.

Asked about the possibility of conducting an international investigation involving other countries, the Kremlin spokesman said that “many questions are being raised” about this, mainly due to the “lack of communication and unwillingness of many countries to communicate” with Russia.

The European Union is investigating leaks at the Nord Stream 1 and Nord Stream 2 gas pipelines in the Baltic and has said it suspects sabotage.

Citing three sources, US news network CNN reported that European security officials spotted Russian support ships and navy submarines near the pipeline leak. Asked to comment on this CNN report, Peskov noted that NATO’s presence in the region is much larger.
