The Prime Minister stressed Greece’s strong commitment to the protection of core European values ​​at the national, EU and international levels, as well as its commitment to close cooperation with the European Commission and the European Parliament. Kyriakos Mitsotakis reaffirmed Greece’s unwavering support for the independence, integrity and territorial sovereignty of Ukraine against Russian invasion.

He also informed the Vice-President of the European Commission about the government’s initiatives to establish additional checks on the activities of special services.

In addition, the Prime Minister welcomed the European Media Freedom Act, a new set of rules proposed by the European Commission to protect media pluralism and independence in the European Union. He pointed out that the establishment of a common framework would henceforth be the most reliable and objective measure of the level of pluralism and pluralism in each Member State. In fact, he told Ms. Yurova that many of the provisions of the Law on Freedom of the Media are either already part of Greek law or are included in the draft law “Increasing Publicity and Transparency in the Print and Electronic Press”.

The meeting was also attended on behalf of the government by Minister of State Giorgos Gerapetritis and Deputy Prime Minister and government representative Yannis Oikonomou.
