Education Minister Sorin Kimpeanu says the legislative amendment removing the grade point average for grades V-VIII from the calculation of high school entrance grades has been welcomed, feedback received after the rule change for students currently in eighth grade was one from “very good”, reports News.ro.
“The feedback on this topic is very good. Everyone knows, and no one likes, that students with the same grade take part in a competition, but with completely different skills according to the grade. A 10th grader at a college that produces Olympians doesn’t have the same level of training, doesn’t have the same skills as a 10th grader at a school where no one takes a national assessment or a baccalaureate. I hope he understood that. And then it creates a fairer competition,” Minister Sorin Kimpeanu said on TVR Info on Wednesday night.
Beginning this school year, for students graduating from eighth grade, the GPA obtained over four years of secondary school will no longer count toward high school admission.
